Do You Want to Build a Deck and do it Right?

We’re here to help you learn how to build a deck that meets or exceeds currently published standards. Shortcuts will save you some time and some money right now, but will cost you more in the long run as the deck will require more maintenance, will have accelerated deterioration, and you risk possible failure of the structure and/or injury to yourself and others.

Nobody likes to hear the word “CODES”, but they are there to ensure safer and durable construction. Codes are updated every 3 years. As soon as the codes are published, the committee starts process for the next update. They have many meetings over the course of the 3 years that are open to the public. Anyone can submit new code proposals and modification, and comments from the public are welcomed. It is not an easy process to get something approved. You have to have documentation showing that your proposal will help prevent injuries or save lives, provide greater structure reliability without extreme expense, or create a simpler path to achieve the same results in order to change the standards. The International Codes, or I-Codes, are the most trusted source of model codes and standards. Decades of knowledge and experience guide their code development process to create safe, sustainable and affordable communities and a level playing field for builders, developers and manufacturers. As industry experts, they provide the codes and standards that building safety professionals rely on and manufacturers trust.
